RF Microneedling: The next great step in non-surgical skin care
Healing your skin from the inside out
Quick Navigation
What is RF Microneedling?
Well, most of us are now familiar with what microneedling is, but for those who are not, it is the application of rapidly oscillating needles that “poke” the skin in order to create collagen. Â It is typically delivered in the form of a handheld pen with a motor on it. Â These rapidly moving needles are generally well tolerated, and perforate the skin into the dermis where this controlled mechanical injury leads to a wound-healing response from the skin. Â This results in newly deposited collagen, and smoother, healthier skin.
What if we could take this technology and bump it up to the next level by applying energy to the needles? Â This is essentially what RF microneedling does. Â With these devices, radiofrequency energy runs through the needles while they are in the skin, adding heat to the affected tissues. Â This adds an extra level of improvement to the skin because there is both mechanical and thermal energy being delivered simultaneously. Â This yields more collagen production and better results.
RF microneedling is excellent for acne scars, fine lines, rough skin texture and mild skin laxity. Â Like simple microneedling, very little recovery is anticipated, unlike with lasers. Â All skin types and colors can undergo this as well. Â This will undoubtedly make this technology very popular! Â We look forward to integrating this exciting technology into our menu of services.
How does radio frequency microneedling work?
The Intensif RF from EndyMed uses tiny “microneedles” (smaller than the diameter of a hair) to safely deliver radio frequency energy to very specific areas of the skin. With this technology we can pinpoint deeper skin layers in the dermis, promoting the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. Over time the targeted tissue will be replaced with healthier, younger looking, smoother skin. This technology offers several settings for depth, number of microneedles, and intensity, allowing us to customize treatments for every individual.
Because the majority of the energy is delivered to the mid-dermis (lower levels of skin), we can target the skins underlying system of fibers and essentially “restructure” areas that have been damaged due to scarring. Rebuilding this underlying skin helps the top layer of skin, the epidermis, heal to be smoother and stronger.
RF Microneedling - a vital part of your acne scar treatment plan
We have seen incredible results so far from our patients who have used RF microneedling to smooth out acne scars, or other surface level skin imperfections, and recommend it as a part of every persons acne treatments. It’s a simple and straightforward procedure, usually lasting around 30 minutes to an hour depending on the areas treated. Because it’s non-surgical and non-invasive, down time is also minimal. You might see some redness and swelling for up to 24 hours, which means you can return to your normal daily activities right away!
How long does it take, and what is recovery like?
Each treatment takes about a half hour depending on the area, and results gradually appear over the next several months. While each patient’s skin condition is unique, Intensif RF Microneedle treamtment generally requires a series of treatments spaced approximately four weeks apart to ensure optimal results. The procedure is typically pretty easy and straight-forward, with little discomfort and minimal downtime. The most common side effects are redness and swelling in the treatment area, which generally resolve within a few days. RF Microneedling patients report seeing results for up to a year after the series of treatments. Our patients have reported that the procedure itself is very tolerable, and we use a topical numbing cream to ease any discomfort.
What areas can be treated with RF Microneedling?
Radio frequency microneedling can be used successfully on a variety of areas on the body. So far our patients have seen the best results using the technology to treat acne scars, enlarged pores, and under-eye wrinkles/bags. Here’s a list of what can be accomplished with this amazing technology:
- firm & tighten skin of the face, neck, & chest
- decrease diffuse wrinkling on decolletage
- minimize the appearance of pores
- reduce excess oil production in the face
- minimize the appearance of acne scars
- treat sun damage
- improve skin tone and texture
- reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- reduce the appearance of stretch marks
- restore firmness and youthful glow to skin
Who is a good candidate for RF Microneedling?
The best way to determine if you’re a good candidate is to give us a call at 303.469.0064 or shoot us a quick email. But, the great thing about this procedure is that almost anybody is a good candidate for it. We’ve been seeing great success with the treatment of acne scars and oversized pores, as well as stretch marks and some other minor scarring. It’s also a great rejuvenating facial treatment in general!
Is RF microneedling good for my skin type / tone?
The range of treatment settings in our device allows us to create treatments which are safe for all skin types, including darker skin tones and skin which is prone to hyperpigmentation. This makes RF MicroNeedling a better alternative than laser skin resurfacing for the majority of patients with dark skin or skin which is prone to scarring or pigmentation. This also means those with lighter skin tones no longer have to post-pone laser therapies during the summer.
