Is Dysport your best option?
Is Dysport® your best option for the best results?
Our Colorado patients are coming to us seeking to look younger or maybe more relaxed and happy. For the vast majority of people, their first experience with aesthetic injectables is Botox®. Botox® is a wonderful product, and has been FDA approved for aesthetic usage since 2002. Millions of people around the world use Botox® or it’s competitor, Dysport® (our favorite), every year.
Botox®, or the similar product that works in the same way, Dysport®, relax the muscles in the areas where they are injected. What that means is that Botox®/Dysport® will make it more difficult for you to make the frequent expressions that, over time, lead to wrinkles. Most often used in the upper face, Dysport® can soften the dreaded “11s” – or those wrinkles between your brows.Dysport® is also commonly used to soften the “crow’s feet” wrinkles on the sides of the eyes.
The effects of Dysport® last between 3-4 months, and regular and continuous usage will give you your best results.*
However, there are definitely limitations to Dysport®. It will not add in volume to your face, it won’t enhance lips (in fact, it should NEVER be used in the lips themselves), and it won’t improve your skin quality.
The Four Aspects of Skin Rejuvenation
Dr. Janowski likes to talk about the 4 aspects of skin rejuvenation: texture, color, volume, and tightness. Dysport® treats only one of these concerns: texture. By softening fine lines, the texture of your skin will improve with regular and continuous usage. Following a clear Dysport aftercare guide is key too for recovery.
Texture:
Rough skin or fine lines (or even deeper lines) can leave us unhappy with the texture of our skin. For smoothing wrinkles in the upper face, patients can choose to have regular Dysport® treatments. Skin texture can also be improved with chemical peels, use of Retin-A at home, microneedling, and laser skin rejuvenation. We all break down collagen in our skin as we age, and over time, our skin can become more wrinkled, less buoyant and more rough. Thus, we may seek out skin smoothing treatments to get back the buoyant and smooth youthful skin we once had.
Color:
The sun is always damaging our skin – leaving us with sun spots and age spots. Hormonal fluctuation – like those that occur in pregnancy – can also increase the appearance of pigment on the skin – commonly known as melasma. Over time, and especially in high sun climates like Colorado, our skin can be come blotchy and uneven. A treatment with a laser, IPL Photofacials, or a series of intensive peels can lighten some of this discoloration and leave our complexions more even-toned and youthful looking. Regular home skin care products, like medical-grade Hydroquinone, can also brighten skin’s overall appearance.
Tightness:
As our skin ages, it sags. The collagen that kept our skin taut and firm breaks down – and after age 40 – we don’t make any new collagen (without external stimulation). We are also pioneering the use instalift threads – which instantly tighten skin by pulling it with a fine thread inserted under the skin. A laser treatment can also offer some tightening – especially for creppy skin under the eyes. Additionally, we like the injection of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) under the eyes to rejuvenate this delicate skin.
Volume:
We all lose volume in our faces as we age. Collagen breaks down, fat pads under the skin shrink, and bone in the face is absorbed. For millenia, the ideal and beautiful, youthful face is one that has a diamond or heart-like shape. This shape is achieved by having lift in the mid-face and defined cheekbones – as well as a firm jawline.
You can google “make-up” tutorials that will explain in detail how to attempt to achieve this look with techniques like contouring.
Fillers, placed by an expert physician like Dr. Janowski, can also help you achieve your most proportionate and beautiful face. The idea isn’t to make everyone look the same – but to help enhance your most beautiful features.
Fillers can be used all over the face – and we regularly a variety of fillers, each with its own best usage. From enhancing thinning lips, to filling in lines, to adding volume in areas that tend to sink or sag – like the cheeks, temples, and jawline – fillers give instant lift to the face.
You want to work with someone who has a deep knowledge of beauty, facial anatomy, and the wide range of fillers to get your most naturally beautiful results.
While most of our patients come in looking to soften wrinkles with Dysport®, many discover the “magic” of fillers – and all that adding volume can do for softening, defining, and beautifying your appearance.
