Aftercare Tips for Fillers
Fillers Aftercare Tips
Injectable fillers are an easy and convenient way to get rid of parentheses lines, tear trough, and other signs of facial aging. And what’s best is that even though you’re getting great cosmetic results, you can largely just go about your normal daily routine without worrying about your fillers.
But there are a few things you should look out for. Here are some tips for taking care of yourself after getting fillers like Restylane, Radiesse, Voluma, and Belotero.
General Aftercare
There’s little that you regularly have to do after getting a filler injection. It’s recommended that you avoid excessive alcohol consumption and strenuous exercise. You should also avoid exposing your injection sites to excessive heat, which means avoiding:
- Sunbathing
- Saunas
- Hot tubs
- Hot wax
- Very hot showers
Prolonged cold may not be good for your fillers, either, so this is not the best time for a ski trip.
You can put sunscreen and makeup on the treated area, and wash it normally.
Dealing with Complications
Serious complications from fillers are very, very rare. Minor complications are uncommon, and can be dealt with simply.
Swelling: To reduce swelling at the injection site, apply ice packs intermittently.
Discomfort: Some people experience discomfort at the injection site, while others may get a headache after an injection. This discomfort is typically minor and can be treated with acetaminophen (Tylenol). Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), aspirin, naproxen (Aleve), and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are not recommended as these can increase bruising.
Bruising: Bruising after an injection varies greatly among individuals. If you have a history of bruising easily, we recommend arnica skin cream or tablets. You can also cover bruises with makeup.
Bumps or lumps: In most cases, fillers will smooth easily into your face. An exceptional injection technique is part of what sets Dr. Janowski apart. But if you do have bumps or lumps, you can gently massage them periodically to help your body incorporate the fillers.
