What is the Halo Fractional Laser?
Halo is the worlds 1st hybrid fractional laser that combines both ablative (CO2 and Erbium) and nonablative (CoolTouch and Fraxel Restore) technology. Ablative treatments target the top layer of your skin, like a peel. Non-abative lasers essentially drill tiny little injuries into the skin, triggering collagen and elastin production – which is what helps to reduce existing wrinkles and to keep them from forming in the future.
Ablative and non-ablative treatments can work wonderfully to restore your youthful skin, but also produce different results, have different downtimes and recovery processes. This is exactly why combining the two with Halo is so revolutionary.
Basically, the Halo targets both the dermis and epidermis, doing the work of 2 lasers at the same time. Some aesthetic lasers can have a healing time of up to 5 days, while most Halo patients report around 2 days for healing.
What is the procedure like?
Before treatment:
We ask that you wait 3-4 days after injectable treatments (Botox, Dysport, or Fillers) before getting the Halo Laser.
We also ask that you come sans makeup so we can apply a topical numbing cream before the treatment. After taking a series of “clinical” photos (for before and afters), we will apply a numbing cream. This usually takes between 30-45 minutes to start working, and will help to ease any discomfort during the procedure. After the topical numbing cream takes effect, we can begin!
During treatment:
Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure can take between 30 minutes to 1 hour. Most patients report minimal, if any, discomfort. Many of our patients say that it feels like a small burst of heat – maybe a 2 or 3 out of 10 on the “pain scale”. In addition to the numbing cream, we have a sort of “fan” that blows cool air on the treated areas.
During the treatment, a wand-like hand piece will be moved across the treatment area, emitting quick bursts of laser energy. These bursts help to create tiny holes in the surface of the skin, which fires up the body’s natural healing process. This is what produces the collagen responsible for your beautiful, glowing skin!
After treatment:
While everybody responds differently to laser treatments, recovery and downtime are fairly predictable. Immediately after treatment, most patients report a feeling of heat in the face, very similar to a mild sunburn.
Swelling and redness can occur, and are perfectly normal following the treatment. This should only last a day or so, and most patients report going back to work or resuming their “normal” routine within 24 hours.
2-3 days after treatment you will see “spotting” – little brown specks that kind of look like coffee grounds – and a bronzed appearance of the treated skin. That is totally normal, and an expected part of the healing process! During this time your skin will also start to peel. Your body is essentially “sloughing off” the treated tissue so your new, beautiful skin can shine through. After a few days the hyperpigmentation and peeling will dissipate, and you will start to notice much healthier looking and glowing skin.
You will continue to see results in the weeks and months after treatment, as the body produces more collagen to heal the treated areas. This newly produced collagen is responsible for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, disappearance of sunspots, healing of acne scars, and so much more!

Some amazing benefits of Halo treatments include:
- Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
- Disappearance of brown sunspots
- Skin texture improves - becoming softer, smoother, and tighter
- Reduction in pore size
- Reduction in pock marks and acne scars
- More youthful looking skin due to increased collagen production
We provide a topical skin numbing cream about 30 minutes prior to treatment to assist with any discomfort. Most patients describe the treatment as a feeling of heat with some prickling sensations, but are generally comfortable.
Because Halo is a hybrid laser, patients typically need fewer overall treatments (than traditional lasers) to achieve great results! As with most aesthetic treatments, it depends on the patient – what are the goals and what areas are being treated? The best solution is to schedule your free consultation so Dr. Janowski can set up a perfect customized treatment plan, just for you!
Positive results from the Sciton Halo laser can last for years! Again, as with any aesthetic treatment, your individual results depend on a variety of factors – number of treatments, areas treated, your overall skin health, and how well you maintain your skin afterwards. Remember, sun block is your best friend!
It’s completely normal for your skin to be red and a little tender in the day or so after treatment. Because of this, sweat might not feel great in the treated areas – but it all depends on your comfort level. If you are vigilant about wearing sunscreen, we see no reason to avoid the outdoors.
Every Halo treatment is customized for your skin depending on your goals and your needs. Give us a call at 303.469.0064 to set up your free consultation and we can discuss what options and treatments are best for you!
