What I learned from an industry leader
I recently flew to Ft. Lauderdale to study with Dr. Shino Bay Aguilera, an internationally recognized cosmetic dermatologist and expert injector. Dr. Aguilera is the number one Sculptra injector in the world*, and I jumped at the opportunity to meet with him. In addition to teaching me new injection techniques with Sculptra and other fillers, he reinforced some important concepts about the aging face that all physicians (and clients) should internalize.
Before the age of 40, the volume loss we see in our faces is mainly due to fat loss, and can be corrected easily with any number of products. Starting in our 40’s, we begin to lose bone as well. When this happens, the structural skeletal support in our face begins to breakdown, and facial aging accelerates. This process progresses further for women when they hit menopause. Consequently, the way we correct volume loss is different than younger women, focusing more on “imitating bone” with deep, collagen stimulating fillers such as Sculptra. The mid-face (cheek) is the most important area to correct, as it restores volume, provides lift, and provides the most youthful beauty to the face. In fact, the majority of how people judge our age is by looking at the middle third of our face (our cheek area). This is where the majority of Sculptra is concentrated.
Dr. Aguilera’s concepts only serve to strengthen my existing enthusiasm for this product as the most anti-aging non-surgical tool we have in aesthetics. And now, after my visit, I feel I can provide an even more effective treatment, with even better results.
