What is a non surgical threadlift?Â
Surgical threads, and the polymer that they consist of, have been used for years in a number of biomedical and pharmaceutical applications – sutures, rods, screws, orthopedic pins, and nails for bone fractures. These applications have been developed because the polymer has shown such excellent biocompatibility and is biodegradable.Â
We love threads at Sonata because they are a unique facial rejuvenation procedure that lifts and contours the skin without the need for surgery or general anesthesia – and no scarring! It’s a simple in-office procedure that is often called a “one-hour” or “lunchtime” facelift.Â
Results are typically immediate and generally last for a year or more. Along with an immediate effect, you will continue to see a tightening of the treated area as the threads dissolve and encourage the body to generate collagen.Â
Thread lifts are perfect for men and women with moderate loose and sagging skin in the face and neck area.Â

How does a threadlift work?
MINTÂ (Minimally Invasive Nonsurgical Threads) lifts are relatively simple, especially when compared to other “traditional” facelift procedures. The Dr. uses a very fine needle to insert a thin, absorbable thread under the skin. These tiny threads either have cones or barbs to lift and tighten the skin from underneath while simultaneously encouraging the body to produce more collagen. The procedure generally takes about an hour depending on the area treated, and results should be apparent within a day or so.MINT Thread Lift
What is a MINT PDO Thread Lift?
Minimally Invasive Nonsurgical Threads, or MINT, are the latest innovation from South Korea and can have distinct advantages over other threads because of their design. MINT is an FDA approved heavy gauge barbed thread made from Polydioxanone (PDO) . The heavier gauge and patented barbs allow the thread to give more of a lift. Additionally, it’s anchored – creating less “float” than other threads, providing superior results. Like all threads, it promotes collagen in the treated areas, and dissolves around 6-9 months after insertion with lifting effects lasting for around one year.
What to know before and after your non-surgical threadlift
Before:
Dr. Janowski and the Sonata staff will review all of the information you need for exceptional results during the procedure consultation. We can address any concerns and questions you might have, your desired results, and discuss the Dr’s techniques and anesthesia options. Dr. Janowski, and staff, will perform the threadlift as an outpatient same day procedure, usually taking between 1-3 hours. We recommend that you discontinue use of any (blood thinning) products containing aspirin, ginseng, & green tea for two weeks prior to the procedure – as this can help limit any potential bruising. After:Â
Our team will check in with you the day after the procedure, and every few days after to see how you are doing and answer any questions you might have. It is normal, and expected, for the treated areas to feel a bit swollen and sore immediately afterwards. Any discomfort can typically be treated with Tylenol. If you have persistent and unmanageable pain, please call our office immediately. Most of our non-surgical facelift patients have returned to normal activities a day or two after the procedure. Although visible results are immediate, your body will continue to heal and produce collagen which will stabilize and further improve the results over time!
FAQ's about threadlifts
Thread lifts are perfect for both men and women with light to moderate sagging in the skin around the neck, face, and jowl areas. It's a great non-surgical solution to a face lift that takes less time in office and has much less downtime.Â
Immediately after your procedure it's best to refrain from heavy lifting or strenuous activities for a few days while any swelling subsides. We will provide you small ice packs to help with any swelling or discomfort. You can gently wash your face immediately after, but avoid pressing too hard in the treated areas. During the 1st month we recommend that you be gentle with the treated area - gently washing, no pulling or stretching, and no massages on the treated areas. For men it's important that you don't stretch or pull at the face while shaving.Â
You can wear makeup, sunscreen, or moisturizer immediately after your MINT thread lift. Again, it's best to make sure that you're not rubbing or pulling too hard on the treated areas. You may experience mild bruising after the procedure, which can be covered up with makeup if you like.Â
It really depends on the area(s) that is being treated, and how many threads are being used. Our threadlift patients are usually in office for around 1-3 hours.Â
It depends on the area(s) treated and the age of the patient. However, we see most results lasting around a year, with additional benefits (collagen production) lasting much longer.Â
Risks with this procedure are very minimal. Side effects can include bruising, swelling, and light discomfot around the treated areas. These can be treated with ice packs or Tylenol as needed.Â
Dr. Janowski will insert enough threads so that a breakage (which is rare) of a thread will not cause a loss in volume in one area. Occasionally a broken thread can feel like a pimple under the skin. If this occurs, that thread can be easily removed in the office as necessary.Â
This depends on the treated area(s) and how many threads are needed to achieve the desired results. Dr. Janowski will review this, and any other questions you might have during your free consultation.Â
Dr. Janowski will perform the entire procedure himself, with the help of his medical assistant. As with any minimally invasive procedure, it's important that you see a licensed professional with plenty of experience. Dr. Janowski is a national trainer for the Silhouette threadlift, has performed hundreds of procedures and helped to train many other Dr's in the correct techniques for the best results.Â
The short answer is "no". The purpose of a threadlift is to lift skin in areas that have become loose and sagging over time, giving you back a more youthful and vibrant look.Â
When done correctly by an experienced Dr., threads should never be visible.Â
In some individuals with thin skin, a "buckling" of the end of the thread can occasionally be seen when the patient smiles. In most cases, this resolves spontaneously after a couple of months. If the "buckling" persists or is problematic, the offending thread can be removed or replaced. The overall incidence of this is less than 5%
