Kybella: Wow!

We just had one of the first patients that Dr. Janowski treated with Kybella return for her 3 month post-injection follow up. Vaneesa has been concerned about laxity and genetic fat under her chin for years. She is thin and fit, but the fatty deposit under her chin was just part of her genetics.

Vaneesa did her first Kybella treatment in late September 2015. As with the vast majority of patients treated with Kybella, she had some swelling and a little tenderness that lasted for a week or two. That is because what Kybella does is lyse, or breaks apart fat cells in the treated area. The heat or swelling and inflammation you may feel during or post-treatment means the treatment is working and the fat cells are breaking apart. They will then be flushed out by your body.

However, the good news is…once these fat cells are gone, they are gone for good.

Most Kybella patients will need two or three treatment sessions to see their best results. And the skin does take a little time to “tighten up” post treatment. For those with a lot of skin laxity, you may notice more prominence of loose skin post-Kybella treatment as the fat is flushed for your system, but the skin isn’t necessarily tightened. But in general, that is not the case. Some of the inflammation that breaks apart the fat cells has a nice side effect of doing some moderate skin tightening in the treated area.

We have patients wait about 12 weeks in between  treatment sessions so that the fat cells can be processed and Dr. Janowski can give you your most accurate follow-up treatment.

What’s amazing about Vaneesa’s results are that these photos are after JUST one session! She did go on to do one more treatment because she is looking for even better results and a more defined jaw line. On her second treatment, she felt very little heat and had very little swelling. That is because many of her fat cells are already gone and there is less for the product to lyse.
