The Plasma Facial: “My Skin Has Never Looked Better or Felt Smoother”!
A Review of the Plasma Facial, From an Actual Patient
By Guest Blogger and Patient, Melissa Janiszewski
As a 36 year old living in Colorado, I’ve learned a few things about my skin. I know that environmental factors like, heat, wind, low humidity and high altitude can cause the skin to lose moisture and make your skin feel like it’s going to shed like a snake. Who wants to walk around looking like a reptile?
Over the years, I’ve tried just about anything to get my skin to remain youthful, and to get rid of some acne scars I acquired while in my raging 20’s.
Like many of us, I first heard about the plasma facial while binge watching episodes of, Keeping up With the Kardashians. I have to say, I was both frightened and intrigued. Of course on the show, Kim’s face is covered in red blood and she’s crying because her face isn’t numbed. I also realized this was a reality show, and she needs to make certain things seem entertaining for ratings, so I took her theatrics with a grain of salt.
Of course, at this point I had to know and had to get a plasma facial. I was now in search of a place in Colorado that preformed this treatment, and that is where I found Dr. Janowski and his team at Sonata Aesthetics in Broomfield.
First, I needed to find out the point of all this. Why on EARTH would you needle your face with your own blood? Does this really work to improve skin, or is this a weird Hollywood trend that I now feel like I needed to have?
I have to say, after meeting with Dr. Janowski, I was convinced. My aging, dry, Colorado skin was the perfect candidate.
The plasma facial is meant to stimulate collagen and elastin fibers, which makes your skin smoother and all around clearer. The process was fast and pleasant. You come in a bit early, because you do have to put numbing cream on your face. Yes, you do have blood wiped all over your face, but it’s actually the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and the purpose is to heal your skin. The basic PRP treatment has been used for almost 20 years to accelerate the healing of wounds and burnt skin, and to help athletes.
I bought the package of three treatments and decided to write about this process after I completed all three. I wanted to see what the results really were. I also purchased two products to help with discoloration in my skin; The Obagi Vitamin C serum and the Obagi Nu-Derm Skin Brightening Set. I’ve been using these products for over 6 weeks, and they have become a staple in my routine.
The facial takes about 30 minutes and then you’re done. Each time you have the treatment, you have to leave the plasma on your face for a few hours. After each treatment I left red (and remained looking a bit sunburned for just under 24 hours). The only thing I have to complain about is that after leaving Dr. Janowski’s office, I was terrified to go outdoors, fearful that the city air would ruin my skin.
I glowed for weeks, and people complimented my skin for the first time. My skin has never looked better or felt smoother.
I’m a fan!
