Q&A with Amy
A conversation with Amy, our nurse injector and medical skin care provider
What sparked your interest in aesthetics?
My primary goal as a nurse has always been to help my patients feel better. From a holistic perspective, feeling better goes so much farther than just relief from physical pain. As a patient, Dr J. gave me the gift of feeling as though I had control over aging gracefully. I always left Sonata feeling better about myself. The desire to help other people feel the same sense of control, and ultimately feel better about themselves, was what sparked my interest in aesthetics.
What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
I get asked this question all the time, and it is one of the most challenging for me to answer. The simple answer is, my favorite procedure is the one that gives the best results for the individual patient I am working with. I personally suffered from melasma and benefited from series of IPLs, so I love helping others see the same amazing results. On the other hand, I love helping patients achieve the impressive results from the collagen production that plasma RF microneedling provides. I have not yet found a procedure that I don’t enjoy performing. As long as my patients are seeing results, I find joy in every treatment I get to provide.
What is one tip about skin health that you tell your friends?
I think it is important to start preventing the aging process before we need to chase it. I tell my younger friends to get a couple treatments a year whether it be plasma microneedling or VI Peels. I believe the earlier we can address the skin issues that are bothering us, the easier they are to get under control. And of course, SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN! SUNSCREEN!
What is an innovation in the aesthetics field that you find interesting?
As a nurse I find the science of aesthetics and, more specifically, how the human body produces collagen fascinating!! With a little help from lasers, lights and needles, our bodies actually do the anti-aging work. I love that aesthetic technology is essentially a tool to assist our bodies, rather than to fix them. The science behind RF Microneedling is one example that impresses and interests me. By causing micro-injuries to the skin, introducing the energy from radio frequency, and applying the body’s own healing properties through plasma, patients are building their own collagen and achieve incredible results! I provide the service, but it’s the patient’s body that is really doing the work.
What is your own home skin care regimen?
I use the entire Obagi NuSkin line. I love how it keeps me free from the melasma that has been chasing me since my early 20s. I added in Obagi’s Clarifying Vitamin C serum, Elastaderm serum and Tretinoin cream. The serums help protect me from environmental oxidation and replaces the elastin my body stopped producing over twenty years ago! Tretinoin turns my skin over in my sleep, keeping it essentially free from breakouts and dull skin. My favorite Obagi product I use is their tinted sunscreen. It leaves my skin looking as refreshed, clear and dewy as makeup and I look forward to using it everyday!
What do you think makes Sonata special?
I was a patient at Sonata before I was lucky enough to work here and the staff always made me feel beautiful and special from the moment I walked through the door. I never felt as though they
were trying to fix me. Instead, the solutions that were suggested always addressed my concerns while keeping my budget in mind. Since becoming a member of the team, I have realized that the true magic of Sonata is that the entire staff is passionate about helping our patients feel the best about themselves. Sonata isn’t just a run-of-the-mill med spa trying to make money off of people’s insecurities. Instead, it is a safe space where patients can find caring, individualized solutions to whatever is concerning them. Every member of the staff is there to work together to achieve the same goal… to make the patient feel as special, beautiful, and unique as possible!
